Review: The Alverton

1 August 2016

This month we had the chance to review The Alverton in Truro and try a cocktail or two... (or four...hey, how are we supposed to give a "proper" review without tasting a few!) Here's the low down on our tasty tipples!

First Impressions...

Everything about The Alverton says 'style'. The contemporary bar, the mood, the ambient lighting, the ever-so-dashing Mixologist and tactile furnishings, it's all been designed with comfort, style and a sense of historic grandeur, making it feel a combination of heritage-chic and modern luxe simultaneously! Arriving to the hotel up the sweeping drive and seeing the exterior lit up by floodlights was sensational as was walking through the original arched doorway into the warm and casual elegance of the bar.

What we were drinking...

We enjoyed Summer in the Courtyard: Pinkster Gin combined with Apple and Pear Vodka, Elderflower Liqueur, Lime and Cranberry Juice then finished with soda water and cucumber. It was uplifting and refreshing with the perfect name (as I did enjoy it on a balmy summer evening on the outdoor terrace). We also tried the Alverton Sling: Rum, Amaretto, Chambord and Cointreau married together with orange and pineapple juice to create a potent long drink. Strong-flavoured, sophisticated and deep with the hint of black raspberry liqueur, we loved it so much we ordered the same again!

Best bits...

  • The Alverton terrace in the sunshine is a hidden retreat! We loved basking in the sun, tucked away from the bustle of the city
  • The stylish, sophisticated interiors
  • The unique and delicious cocktails
  • The knowledgeable bar team, helping us select the best cocktail to suit our tastes
  • Great variety of food on offer (we regretfully didn't have time to sample the cuisine but we have vowed to return!)

Need to know tip...

The Alverton has just announced their new collection of 15 individually and beautifully designed rooms. In keeping with the hotel history and style, the former chapel features sumptuous fabrics, copper baths and arched doorways, paired with contemporary décor and modern touches, meaning if you decide to sample an extra cocktail or two, you could consider making a night of it and waking up to a delicious Alverton breakfast!
