Review: The Rosevine

14 December 2016

We had the opportunity this month to visit The Rosevine, a stunning boutique hotel next to the sea on the Roseland Peninsula.

When we thought of The Rosevine with large lawn, beach just beneath and outdoor play area for kids, we immediately thought it would be the ideal place for a summer holiday, perfect for family fun.

What we didn't think of was a winter escape: we were in for a treat!

The ideal staycation, The Rosevine proved to be quite the winter retreat, and a lovely place for a romantic break, even if just for one night. It was an excuse to kick back, unplug, switch off and spend some time reconnecting and rekindling as a couple.

The welcome was warm and friendly and we were given a key to the front door and told to treat The Rosevine as our own home. I immediately noticed the roaring log burner where we made ourselves comfortable with a cup of tea and a good novel. Putting my legs up as we stretched across the sofa, it truly felt like we were at home. A much nicer, more magnificent, elegant home but relaxed all the same.

Following this we decided to go for a bracing cliff walk and onto the beach below the house. Porthcurnick Beach is an idyllic beach, a hidden sandy cove, perfect for children too. On our return we took a dip in the indoor heated pool which was nice and warm with lovely mood lighting, it was a chance to really unwind. The style is consistent throughout the house; calming colour schemes, soft and casual furnishings paired with antique French furniture; an extremely high quality of décor but unassuming and reflective of the relaxed beachside vibe.

Simple yet stylish there are a selection of rooms and suites. We stayed in a Family Suite which was lovely with plenty of storage a comfortable bed and a separate bedroom with twin beds for children. There was a well equipped kitchen area with table and chairs and the fresh milk was a nice touch. But the best bit was our private balcony with the most amazing views. Following our dip in the pool, we wrapped up in snuggly dressing gowns that we found in our suite and sat on the balcony with a cup of coffee admiring the scenery. For dinner we ate in The Rosevine restaurant which we loved although if we had stayed a second night we would definitely have tried the Deli Supper where the food is delivered to your room, this looked like a fun and homely touch. Dinner included delights such as Smoked Haddock and Parsley Risotto with a Poached St Ewe egg, Braised Beef Short Rib accompanied with Potato Terrine and the most divine Cornish Ribeye Steak with hand cut chips. For dessert we indulged in a Lemon Meringue Cheesecake whilst and the Cornish Cheese Selection. We were very full but wanted to try the full 3 courses as everything tasted so great! I have to say, the service was superb. The next morning breakfast was also superb with everything you could possibly want, including fresh bread.

We couldn't fault our stay at The Rosevine, in fact we're rather looking forward to returning. We took one last stroll along the coast, taking it in turns to skim stones and see who could get theirs farthest. That's the essence of The Rosevine really, it makes you feel relaxed yet playful, returning to a sense of fun and leaving all of your troubles far behind, even if we do live only 15 miles down the road. It felt like we had truly escaped.

I'm not one who had ever considered a holiday at home. I never thought we would receive such a level of quality and care. And yet The Rosevine had it all, I feel more alive and refreshed than I have in a long time. I pick up a brochure on my way out knowing exactly where I'm going to be staying this Valentine's...
