Beginner Bread Baking Course at Philleigh Way (8th february)

Dough’nt miss the ever-popular bread baking course this month at Philleigh Way Cookery School! On this creative one day course,  head tutor and master baker George Pascoe will take you through the craft of artisan bread baking. During the day students learn how to bake a variety of different breads to include a classic white loaf, focaccia, sourdough, soda bread and naan bread. Students leave equipped with the necessary skills to fill their home with the mouth watering aroma of freshly baked bread. The course gives students numerous insights and baker's tips on how to get the best results when baking at home.

The Birds of Glendurgan Trail, (11th February)

The exotic and jungle-like Glendurgan Gardens are re-opening their gates this February half term, and a little bird told us that there’s a fun family trail to explore! There are a wonderful variety of birds at Glendurgan and on their special half term trail, you can choose a bird character for the day and find out all about them as you walk around the lovely valley garden.

Terrific Tudors  (13 - 17 February)

Let history comes alive, by stepping back in time over 400 years and exploring one of Henry VIII’s finest coastal fortresses. Pendennis Castle, which has defended Cornwall against foreign invasion since Tudor times, makes for a fun and educational day out for all! Children will love climbing the spiral staircase to the top of the castle keep and the recreated gun deck. Pendennis also offers breath-taking 360 degree views over Falmouth dressed in all its winter glory, you will feel like you have stepped into the pages of a story book.

Fal River by Foot

Don your hiking boots and take a trip to St Mawes on the ferry. Nothing beats a refreshing boat ride and stroll to soak up the breathtaking views around you. The Fal River Walk offers jaw dropping landscapes at this time of year. The walk to King Harry Reach from St Mawes takes in the beautiful scenery along the Fal - the last remaining oyster fishery in Europe still to be dredged by sail and oar.

Ships and Castles Leisure Centre

Ships and Castles is a surefire hit with children and adults this half term. Bring the thrill of the ocean indoors by riding their wave machine, or have a go on the river ride which sweeps you along at an exciting speed! There’s so many exciting features including a 70 metre flume! (the longest in the region), a shallow beach area for little ones to play, geysers and bubbles for the younger ones and places for them to practice jumping in and to gain their confidence. Adults can also take time out during the session to sit in the Jacuzzi and watch the rest of the fun. In addition to daily fun sessions there are flat water public sessions for those who prefer a more traditional swim.

Skeleton: New Sculpture from Old Boats, Maritime Museum

Set sail for the Maritime Museum this half term and check out the truly oarsome sculpture exhibition of the Museum’s first ever ‘artist in residence’, boatbuilder and sculptor Rob Johnsey. The exhibition is a solo show of new sculptural works inspired by historic boats and other forms in the Museum's collections. The exhibition provides a tactile and visually appealing experience, and a new way to engage with historic boats from Cornwall and around the world, showcasing Rob's skill and artistic flair with wood and 3-D forms. It also takes a look at the process of making sculpture. Make sure you go and see these stunning works of art up close!
