King Harry Ale returns for Fal River Festival

A commemorative beer created by Skinners Brewery will be making a welcome return for this year’s Fal River Festival.

King Harry Ale, which was originally brewed for the launch of the new King Harry Ferry in 2007, will be on tap during the nine-day festival.

Celebrating life on and around the river Fal, the festival will run from 22 – 31 May, and organisers believe the ale will be the perfect tipple to enjoy the packed event programme.

“We’ve got over 130 events lined up including a world record bid, as well as turning the King Harry Ferry into a floating cinema for three nights,” said festival director, Toby Budd.

“The festival launched in 2006 and this will be the biggest one to date so what better way to enjoy all the activities taking place than by supping on a pint of King Harry Ale.

“As well as Skinners involvement in the festival, we’re really pleased they decided to bring back the beer as it proved to be extremely popular when it was first produced to commemorate the launch of the new King Harry Ferry.”

The beer will also have a grand introduction to the festival as it is loaded on to a flotilla of boats from Skinners’ base at Newham, Truro.

“All the boats in the flotilla will be filled with singers and musicians and once on board we will set sail for Falmouth,” added Toby.

“After we’ve docked at the Prince of Wales pier the beer will be loaded on to horse drawn carriages and then lead by a parade of samba dancers to Events Square, where Lady Mary Holborow will officially open the festival.

“It’s going to be a great start to what will be a memorable nine-days all around the Fal.”

Skinners’ chief executive, Steve Skinner, said: “We’re really pleased to be supporting this year’s Fal River Festival.

“And it’s nice that we can bring out King Harry Ale again as it was so popular before.”

Toby and Steve are also working with Skinners to put together a number of free live music events during the festival.

“We’re just finalising the details of the free music events,” said Toby.

“But it promises the be a great addition to the festival and I’m looking forward to letting people know what the line up will be.”
