Raising Money for Charity

This years chosen charity was Shelterbox and the Fishermen's Mission.

The Fishermen's Mission

The Fishermen's Mission is the only national charity caring specifically for the UK's fishermen and their families. It provides emergency and welfare support to sick, distressed, disabled, retired and seagoing fishermen, their families, and, all too often, their widows.

The Mission's welfare centres which are situated in most of the UK's major fishing ports provides this care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Our welfare centre at Newlyn has, for over 100 years, provided emergency sleeping accommodation, a canteen that is open five and a half days a week throughout the year. It is also opened any time of the day or night when there is an emergency and fishermen are being brought in from an accident at sea. Hot food, dry clothes and a bed for the night are all essential when men are brought in from a shipwreck wet, cold and in shock. The Mission knows the hardship that many fishing families face and it has a long history of knowing exactly how to help and to care for them.

Gina Moore SW Regional Fundraising Manager says "As the Mission relies entirely on voluntary giving to fund its work, we are most grateful to the Falmouth Fish Festival committee for choosing the Fishermen's Mission as their charity of the festival"
