Destination marketing picks up pace with additions to the Fal River Cornwall team.
The marketing team behind Cornwall’s most popular visitor destination are gearing up for a busy 2012 with the appointment of two new members of staff.
Tommy Tonkins and Claire Wood have joined Fal River Cornwall to help grow the destination marketing partnership that promotes the river as one of Cornwall’s ‘must see’ destinations.
Enjoyed by over two million people a year and set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the team will promote the Cornish river as a destination that offers something for everyone, whether visiting for a day or a week.
Fal River Cornwall marketing manager, Toby Budd, said: 'We’re really excited about Claire and Tommy joining the team to help us promote this amazing area.
'From castles, attractions, beaches and watersports to walking trails, cycling and riverside gardens, the river offers plenty for visitors to see and do.
'This is all connected through the award-winning Fal River Links network of ferries, buses and trains that connect the river.'
For those who want to stay longer the team will also be promoting accommodation providers in the area, which Toby describes as “boasting the highest density of award winning accommodation providers in Cornwall.”
Tommy, who joins as digital communications manager, previously worked on national and international campaigns for Helston-based charity, ShelterBox.
And with five years experience in the hospitality industry Claire has become Fal River’s new sales manager.
'It’s a really exciting time to be joining the Fal River team,' said Tommy, who rows for Flushing and Mylor Pilot Gig Club in his spare time.
'The river is such an easy thing to market as it has so many fantastic offerings, not least its stunning natural beauty
'We are developing a really compelling offering to visitors with the Fal Mussel Card at its core, which gives visitors unlimited, hassle free, hop on hop off travel and attraction entry.
'We have done some research and there are very few other places in the world that can match the offering we have here on the Fal. The new website goes live next month and this is our complete focus at the moment, it is a massive project and we’re excited about what it can do for the river.'
Claire, who will lead on promoting the Mussel Card, as well as membership for the area guides and soon to be launch agents and affiliates scheme, said: 'I have a general love for tourism, hospitality and the event based industry and, of course, Falmouth.
'I’m really looking forward to working with the rest of the team and getting everything in place for a bumper 2012.'
