Take a Walk on the Wild Side

Discover the weird and wonderful world of wildlife at The Lost Gardens of Heligan from Saturday 18th to Tuesday 21st October as Heligan celebrates its abundance of wildlife throughout the estate. Fill your senses with fascinating, illustrated talks from renowned BBC wildlife cameraman Ian McCarthy and delve through the natural wonders and intrigues of Heligan's diverse landscape on Wild Walks with Heligan's wildlife experts.

"Journey Into the Wild" with BBC wildlife cameraman Ian McCarthy. Based predominantly with the BBC Natural History Unit in Bristol for the last 25 years Ian has worked on some of the BBC's most memorable wildlife documentaries, including Planet Earth, Life in the Freezer and Blue Planet, and has encountered spectacular events in over 50 countries.

"I have made pictures of nature all my working life. I have swum with huge Brown Bears in British Columbia and been charged by an angry Musk Ox in Greenland. I have howled with a wolf pack in Montana and snorkelled with thousands of courting Sockeye Salmon in the rivers of Alaska." Ian McCarthy

Set out on an adventure around the world as Ian talks about his extraordinary experiences and shows fascinating footage captured on his wild adventures. Travel to some of the most remote wildernesses in the world, from the high Arctic to the Antarctic. Journey back to Britain with the great swirling flocks of wild geese and waders that come to winter with us from the arctic every year. Follow Salmon as they return to our rivers to breed after years in the northern ocean and arrive back at the Lost Gardens with the Kingfisher which winters on the lake in the Lost Valley.

The talks will take place at 2:30pm daily in the Heligan Wildlife Marquee on Flora's Green. Wild Talk - Journey Into the Wild is included in normal garden admission charges.
