Truro college Students get on board at the Maritime Museum
STUDENTS from Truro College jumped on board at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth on Friday when they assisted with the Museum's Minnows session for the under fives.
The students from Truro College's Early Childhood Education courses volunteered to help children and parents with a whole range of pirate themed activities. This was the first of a number of sessions in which the students will be actively involved.
Museum Minnows are monthly multi-sensory sessions designed to stimulate a whole range of senses and are tailored specifically for children under five. The sessions include storytelling, creative activities and a trail around the Museum and are free with a Museum ticket.
Education Assistant Debs Rogers says: "All the students were a huge help and showed great enthusiasm throughout the day. Hopefully over the coming months these students will get more involved in planning the activities and be able to use their creative skills to come up with a range of fun and stimulating things for the children to do."
Janet King from Truro College says: "Taking part in activities like this one at the Maritime Museum really opens the students' eyes to the possibilities for childcare practitioners outside of more conventional settings. After the session all the students were really excited and feeling really inspired about the future."
The next Museum Minnows starts at 1.30pm on Friday 27 March. Places are limited so booking is essential on 01326 214535.
