Valentine's Day Survey

Spa treatments are the number one wanted gift by women this Valentines, a survey reveals.

A recent survey conducted in Cornwall has revealed that the majority of women would prefer a spa treatment as a Valentines gift rather than the usual Valentines chocolates or flowers.

The survey conducted by St Michael's Spa in Falmouth showed that 64% of women chose a spa treatment as their ideal gift over any other present. Flowers were the second most popular with 19% of the vote and third were chocolates with 11% of the vote.

Spa owner, Nigel Carpenter says: "The popularity of spa treatments has grown vastly over the last few years and women, and men alike, are enjoying the relaxing and beneficial experience. This popularity is shown in our survey; women are looking for something more exciting this year than the usual box of chocolates."

The trends in traditions and gifts of Valentine's Day have changed over the years. In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentines would be, the name would be worn on their sleeve for one week, hence the well known saying, "To wear your heart on your sleeve." In some countries, a young woman may receive a gift of clothing from a young man, if she keeps the gift, it means she will marry him.

With the present climate of cold wintery snow, a relaxing, warming and rejuvenating spa treatment could certainly be the new trend for 2009.
