A young, trainee teacher arrives at a failing school, determined to raise the aspirations of poverty-line pupils.

As she struggles with a difficult class, she turns increasingly to her single, middle-aged mentor for help.

But her mentor has troubles of his own. Disillusioned, alienated, and recently bereaved after years of caring for his declining mother, he finds solace as the star of his own Fred Astaire fantasy. And now he’s looking to cast his own Ginger Rogers whether she wants to dance or not.

The unflinching reality of modern schools collides with the escapist 1920s glamour of Astaire and Rogers, with potentially horrifying consequences. Blending film and theatre, knife-sharp dialogue and dance, cube theatre presents AUBADE.
