English Touring Opera will perform Simon Boccanegra in concert on Thursday 30 May at 7.30pm in the beautiful environment of Truro Cathedral.
Following a successful collaboration with Cornwall’s Miracle Theatre in 2012, the UK’s leading touring opera company returns to Cornwall this May with a special performance of one of Giuseppe Verdi’s finest operas.
Set by the Mediterranean in Italy, Simon Boccanegra tells the story of a sailor who reluctantly agrees to become leader of the city of Genoa, at the same time as facing great personal tragedy.
The cast includes Charne Rochford, who performed in English Touring Opera’s popular production of Il tabarro & Gianni Schicchi at Hall for Cornwall in 2011. Rising star Elizabeth Llewellyn plays Amelia, Boccanegra’s long-lost daughter.
This concert performance of English Touring Opera’s touring production is staged with a 25-piece live orchestra, a large chorus, and the cast performing without scores.
English Touring Opera has visited Cornwall for many years, winning an RPS Award for its community opera One Day, Two Dawns in 2009, and presenting Tin, a part-play, part opera with Miracle Theatre in 2012.
Simon Boccanegra is performed on Thursday 30 May at Truro Cathedral. The performance starts at 7.30pm, and tickets cost from £18 to £25. Tickets are available from the Hall for Cornwall box office on 01872 26 24 66 or from www.hallforcornwall.org. More info from: www.englishtouringopera.org.uk
