Fal River Festival in Full Swing After a Sun Soaked Start

2 June 2017

Glorious sunshine shone down on the fleet of boats sailing down the Fal River to mark the start of Fal River Festival 2017 last Friday night.

Around 300 people boarded the flotilla, with Betty Stogs of Skinners Brewery at the helm escorting the festival ale from Truro to Falmouth for the biggest opening night the festival has ever seen.

The fleet merrily made its way down river kept in rhythm by the fantastic carnival beats of the Truro School of Samba.

On arriving in Falmouth, the procession of revellers continued to Events Sq, joining forces with the Falmouth Street Food and Craft Ales Festival where the party got in full swing.

Hundreds more people filled the Square and were treated to a rip-roaring performance by The Motown Pirates. Young and old alike joined in the fun as the party atmosphere continued into the night.

The 10 day festival, which celebrates life on and around the Fal River, runs until Sunday 4 June and features over 150 events covering music, theatre, art, food, drink, sport and adventure.

There's plenty more events in store including Film on the Ferry, Aerial Dance performances at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Stargazing at Penperth Farm, The Castle to Castle Swim, and Sea Shanty at the Pandora Inn.
