Falmouth Christmas Festival

THURSDAY 15th – SUNDAY 18th DECEMBER 2011

Falmouth’s Discovery Quay is to host four days of festive food, drink and shopping at its first annual Christmas Festival.

From Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th December 2011, Discovery Quay will be transformed into a Christmas market with carol singing and street theatre performances throughout the weekend.

Sponsored by Cornish Cottage Holidays and Rick Stein’s Fish & Chips, the festival is a celebration of all things local, encouraging visitors to stock up on locally produced food, drink and gifts, just in time for the festive season.

A large Cornwall Food & Drink marquee will be located in the square, showcasing the finest producers from across the county. Expect tastings, seasonal food and traditional mulled wassail. There will also be a range of Christmas cookery demonstrations on stage across the four days, where you’ll be able to watch the county’s top chefs in action, learning tips and techniques for entertaining guests this Christmas.

Sample the best of Cornwall’s produce from local suppliers, buy the ingredients to take home and cook yourself, or enjoy a meal in one of Discovery Quay’s restaurants, cafés or bars – many of whom will be running special offers throughout the weekend.

Seasonal treats

Well known restaurateur and TV chef Rick Stein, who now has two restaurants and a Deli on Discovery Quay, will also be making an appearance in the Cornwall Food & Drink marquee, as well as signing books for visitors at Stein’s Deli.

There will also be an outdoor Christmas market which will provide an idyllic location for a spot of last minute shopping, full of independent retailers selling local handmade arts, crafts and gifts.

The National Maritime Museum Cornwall is offering free entry for children and will be transforming one of its galleries into Santa’s magical workshop where you can join the elves to create your very own handmade gifts, tree decorations and Christmas cards. They’ll also have a Yuletide trail, photographs on Santa’s sleigh and Douglas Dapper, the Story Explorer.

Promising an array of seasonal treats including Christmas lights and decorations, Santa’s Grotto, festive food and drink, cookery demonstrations and late night shopping, Falmouth’s Christmas Festival offers a great way to make the most of a winter’s day.

The full programme of events will be available via www.falmouthchristmasfestival.com  in the lead up to the festival.
