First ever sleepover at Pendennis Castle

18 November 2011

A night like no other is promised at Falmouth's Pendennis Castle.

20 lucky guests will have the most memorable night’s sleep of their life at Pendennis Castle this November as English Heritage opens its doors overnight for its first ever Castle Sleepover on Friday, November 18.

Steeped in over 500 years of history and well-known for its numerous ghoulish residents, Pendennis Castle promises a night like no other as visitors at the exclusive event get to bed down in the haunted castle Keep.
Arriving at 7:30pm, the night will begin at 8pm when visitors will be treated to a special twilight tour, taking in Half Moon Battery, the Tudor Kitchen, the Keep and Guard House.

A warming supper will be served in the castle tea room, followed by storytelling in the Keep where guests will cosy-up by the fire and hear tales of some of the spooky goings-on experienced by English Heritage staff.  Visitors to the event will be the first to spend a night in the Keep since Pendennis Castle saw action in the Second World War.
Nikki White, Visitor Operations Manager for Pendennis Castle, said: 'We’re all really excited about the launch of castle sleepovers.  Our event is one of only two being held by English Heritage this year and we’re thrilled that Pendennis Castle has been chosen to host the first.

'Up until now, the only people who have been able to tour the castle grounds after hours have been those staying in our holiday cottage. Now guests will not only get an exclusive tour but they’ll also get to sleep in a haunted castle!'
Visitor numbers are limited for this event and restricted to adults only, however, more are planned for the new year, with a family overnight stay scheduled for 15 February 2012, during the Half Term holiday.
Also taking place on 18 November is another event first for Pendennis Castle – Tudor Game Pie Preparation.  During this three-hour interactive session visitors will learn all about the prestige of game in the Tudor era and get to make a pie of their own to take home.
