English Touring Opera Masterclass

Distinguished tenor Joseph Shovelton, who played the lead role in ETO's One Day Two Dawns at the Hall for Cornwall in May, will deliver a public masterclass for both intermediate and experienced singers, who are eager to learn from an artist with an extremely wide performing background. Joe will offer advice on technique, posture, performance practice, and interpretation. As a skilled actor he will also lead singers through the dramatic possibilities offered by an aria or song. English Touring Opera are the busiest and most innovative touring opera company in the UK. ETO travels to more regions and to more venues than any other English opera company, touring twice annually to around 33 theatres and presenting as many as 120 performances per year, working with up to 200 singers and players. ETO produces opera for everyone, with a wide repertoire of high-quality professional productions featuring established and emerging opera talent.

A Night at the Opera
A fabulous night of opera performances including classical arias from Cheryl Brendish and New Cornwall Opera and excerpts from English Touring Opera's Cornish community opera, One Day Two Dawns, a new opera written by the people of Cornwall for the people of Cornwall. In May 2008 wheels were set in motion for a major collaborative project between English Touring Opera, Hall for Cornwall and the people of Cornwall. Over the following six months a cast of almost 250 Cornish children and adults was assembled. In November 2008 an exhilarating creative process began, culminating in the unveiling of One Day Two Dawns at Hall for Cornwall in May 2009. One Day Two Dawns is inspired by the coincidence of the sinking of Lyonesse in 1099, and the full solar eclipse visible in Cornwall exactly 900 years later.
