The Nearwater St Mawes Triathlon is back for 2012 with two distances and a festival atmosphere in store for St Mawes.
The Nearwater St Mawes Triathlon is back and promises to be better than ever...
Details of the race:
1) The swim is open water, but swum on a very well protected area of water. The start is from a shale beach and the finish at the sandy beach in the harbour very close to the transition.
2) The road through the middle of the village will be closed to traffic and the transition will be on the roadside.
3) The registration and prizegiving will be on the quay, right next to the transition.
4) Spectators will be very well catered for on the Quay in the middle of the village, with the standard distance tri doing two laps through the village there will be loads of of opportunities to cheer on your friends.
The sprint course swim will be similar but just one lap, the cycle route as the last two years and the run just one lap of the village.
Standard Swim - 1500m, Cycle Ride 47.5 km, Run 8.6 km
Sprint Swim - 750m, Cycle Ride 23.7 km, Run 4.3 km
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories for men and women:
Open / V40 / V50 / V60 / Team Relay
NB: During the recent Roseland Triathlon there was a very bad bicycling accident on the hill down into St Mawes.
This has prompted a thorough review of cycling safety and the result has been that the start of the Standard Distance Triathlon will now be at 08:30, and the Sprint Triathlon at 08:50.
This is to ensure that the cycling phase of the Triathlon is over before the traffic in St Mawes builds up too much.
