Search & Rescue Week One


A fantastic week of Search & Rescue Events at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth - perfect for the summer holidays.

Step in to the shoes of Britain's Search & Rescue crews this summer holiday at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth.

From building rescue rockets to meeting teams from the Royal Navy, RNLI and HM Coastguard, the week promises to offer some of the best things to do in Falmouth this summer.

The Search & Rescue crew want you!
4-10 Aug, 12-3.30pm

Be inspired by the Search & Rescue exhibition and take part in a range of hands-on activities. Build a rescue rocket, create a lifeboat moneybox and construct a whirling helicopter.

Meet the Crews
6, 8 & 10 Aug, 11.30am-3.30pm

Come and meet the brave men and women who risk their lives at sea to save those in distress. Teams from the Royal Navy, RNLI and HM Coastguard will be sharing first-hand stories and answering the questions you’ve always wanted to ask.

Once upon a time…
6 & 8 Aug, 11.30am 2pm & 3.30pm

Especially for our Search & Rescue weeks, come and enjoy the exciting seaside adventures of Colin the Coastguard and his dependable dog Rocky.

Hands On History
7 Aug, 11.30am, 2pm & 3.30pm

Learn the traditional skill of rope making. Discover the significance of this humble material and its importance to the industrial and maritime history of Cornwall and beyond.

Douglas Dapper’s Lost and Found
9 Aug, 11.30am, 2pm and 3.30pm

Every Thursday throughout the school holidays, Douglas Dapper the Story Explorer takes you on a magical treasure hunt to discover an exciting collection of stories from around the world using exhibits and artefacts to inspire your imagination.

The Story Explorer goes in search of more stories of daring deeds and people in peril. Explore the Museum to uncover all the survival equipment needed for when the worst happens at sea.
