Land's End - Infinite Lands

from 01/12/2009 until 26/02/2010.

As the ultimate bastions of Europe’s Atlantic coastline, capes, headlands and isles enthral and inspire and a captivating new art exhibition at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall will explore lands’ ends across Europe.

Land’s End – Infinite Lands, opening on 1 December, is a new exhibition by painter Matthieu Dorval and writer Chloé Batissou from Brest in Brittany.  They have explored coastal regions from Ireland to Galicia, Cornwall and Brittany studying maritime communities living on the edge.  They have returned with paintings, sketches and watercolours, as well as words, accounts and impressions collected throughout their travels.

Chloé Batissou says: “Just as Cornwall’s landscape and people are shaped by the powerful ocean which surrounds them, so other communities across Europe reflect their unique environments.  And yet each of these communities has much in common and a shared sense of identity inexorably linked with the sea.  Through this exhibition we hope to extend ties between regions and communities bound to the ocean shoreline.”

Land’s End – Infinite Lands opens on 1 December and runs until 26 February.
