Our Favourite Autumn Treats

28 November 2016

We love Autumn. Crisp leaves on the ground, earlier nights, better television (I'm a Celebrity!) and just the perfect, snuggle-up-and-eat-and-drink-lots type of weather!

It's when we start dreaming of Christmas and cashmere becomes a wardrobe necessity.

Here are some of our favourite Autumn treats to make us super excited for 'the season of snuggle', that's what we're calling it anyway!

Windswept Beach Walks – Wandering along the sand and exploring rugged cliff paths, all wrapped up and cosy warm. Stop off at St Michael's Hotel or the Falmouth Hotel for a hot chocolate, where you can be from the beach to the bar within minutes. Or why not brave a picnic hamper from Picnic? As long as you're wrapped up enough, you can enjoy it whilst watching the waves – may we recommend some spicy ginger beer to keep spirits (and warmth) high!

Duvet Days – Literally lying in bed all day, watching films, reading and listening to the rain coming down. If you want to be really lazy, order in so you can eat from the comfort of your cosy bed without having to leave, other than to enjoy a soothing bubble bath or fetch some more magazines perhaps!

Christmas Movies – In November? You bet! We like to start early and get in the mood! Purchase some popcorn and pick 'n' mix and have your very own filmfest with back to back Christmas blockbusters. Our favourites? The Snowman, Elf, a Christmas Carol, The Holiday and of course, White Christmas!

Autumn Tastes – is it just us or does the food in Autumn go to a completely different level of taste sensation? We're feeling particularly excited about the new Autumn menus at The Greenbank. The two AA Rosette awarded Water's Edge restaurant will feature dishes such as smoked duck salad, mussels in Helford cider, Falmouth native oysters and a trio of whiskey smoked game with pickled beetroot and damson compote. And that's just to get you started!

Add to this venison steak, sea bass with bacon and samphire risotto and roast breast of guinea fowl, we're in foodie heaven and we haven't even got to the puddings yet! Baked apple cake with cinnamon beignets, rice pudding, crème brulee with late season berry compote, a chocolate sharing plate and The Greenbank's very own version of a Jaffa Cake – Goodness, we're hungry writing about it!
