Fal River Visitor Information centre grabs a bronze at South West Tourism Excellence Awards

Fal River Vistor Information Centre goes from strength to strength under Cornwall Ferries ownership.

The Fal River Visitor Information Centre has picked up a bronze award at the annual South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

The Visitor Information Centre, which was taken over by Cornwall Ferries at the end of 2011, was awarded a Bronze in the category of Tourist Information Service of the Year.

Centre Manager, Nicola Kneebone, said: 'Just to be nominated after only one full year operating under private ownership is a real achievement.

'We're thrilled to bits to pick up the bronze award and it just goes to show all the hard work from our staff and volunteers is really paying off.

'Our vision is to deliver a visitor information service that sets the standard, not just in Cornwall but across the UK and we can't wait to welcome even more visitors to the Fal River in 2013.

''The behind the scene support from the Fal River team, have helped to make our story a success, and I would like to say a huge thank you to all the team.

The Fal River's status as Cornwall's most popular visitor destination was further strengthened at the results with awards for a range of business based around the river.

Trethem Mill Touring Park won gold in the highly competitive category of Caravan, Holiday Park & Village of the Year and took home the prestigious Winner of Winners award.

The ever-popular National Maritime Museum Cornwall took a hugely-deserving silver in the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year award while there was another gold for the wonderful Bosinver Farm Cottages who continue to lead the way in self-catering accommodation.

The Falmouth Oyster Festival, which takes place every October, was named Tourism Event of the Year.
