    Basking Shark

    02:10 PM, Thu 1 August 2013
    50°W 3' 6" 50°E 3' 6"

The weather this week has been terribly frustrating! We have had some great views of Harbour Porpoises, Grey Seals lots of sea birds. This morning the Gannets were diving all over the place. This afternoon we headed out the sea had a surface chop this does make spotting tricky... but a pair of eagle eyes spotted a fin and yes a 5m Basking Shark in all it's glory!

Common Dolphins have once again delighted everyone aboard! Yesterday they were in quite a playful mood! Sadly in the afternoon we witnessed some behaviour from another boat that certainly would have caused disturbance. We didn't find them this morning but they were back this afternoon... Hooray!

The last couple of weeks have been a mixed bag, the weather has beaten us on a number of occasions. It has really settled down now and we have had some great sightings of Basking sharks, Puffins, Peregrine Falcons. Seals are being seen on Black Rock again which is great we have sent photos to the Cornwall Seal group who have manged to ID them which has given us some really interesting information! The fisherman are reporting that the mackeral is in so at last the sea seems to be coming to life!

    Seals

    10:20 AM, Sat 8 June 2013
    50°W 8' 9" 50°E 8' 9"

The trips over the weekend had lovely weather however the sea state was still quite choppy due to SE wind which makes spotting from a distance quite tricky. However we had an amazing display from the Gannets dropping like stones from the sky. There were also seals in the water around Zone Point quite happy in the morning. Jes who set up Falmouth's Seal Photo Identification Project (FALPIP)came out with us in the afternoon the seals appeared to be very spooked we did hear that snorkellers had been seen in this area. Our ethos is to view any wildlife from a distance so as not to cause any disturbance. Everybody came back looking a little wind swept but had thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

    Gannets

    09:30 AM, Fri 7 June 2013
    50°W 8' 15" 50°E 8' 15"

This poor Gannet had fishing line wrapped around his neck and beak but we couldn't get close enough to catch him. As the trip was returning he was being blown ashore so a quick call to BDMLR medics who went straight down to the beach, by the time they arrived a brave kayaker had paddled out. I say brave as Gannets are big birds. The Gannet was taken to the vet where they found a hook inside it this was eventually removed and the poor bird was sent to Mousehole Bird Hospital as it was extremely malnourished

    Bottlenose Dolphins

    01:00 PM, Wed 22 May 2013
    50°W 9' 19" 50°E 9' 19"

It has been a funny couple of months battling against the weather. Easterly winds are no good for us! The Easter holidays were dominated by Estuary trips we saw terns and Herons waiting patiently at the waters edge also there were a few Gannets off Mylor they were even sheltering from the weather! It was great to see the Bottlenose Dolphins in May with a lone one appearing further out to sea. Sadly we had a Pilot whale stranded on Castle Beach, due to it's poor condition had to be put to sleep :( We are seeing several groups of Harbour Porpoises in and around the same areas and regular and consistent seals, guillemots and the impressive diving skills of the gannets. Please have a look at our Facebook page for some great pictures

After helping yesterday with the stranded Pilot whale it was great to get back out on to the water. The sun was trying very hard to appear! A number of Gannets were seen diving which is always an impressive sight! On a very positive note we saw quite a few healthy Guillemots which was great in light of the recent pollution incident!

    Common Dolphins

    12:00 AM, Wed 14 November 2012
    50°W 5' 39" 50°E 5' 39"

The weather was absolutely stunning today, with clear blue skies. The coastline was literally glowing in the sun. Our passengers today were wrapped up but it wasn't actually that cold for November. From some distance we could see a large number of birds this is always a good indicator of activity. 30 to 40 Common dolphins frantically feeding an awesome sight for our two families. With a bit of Easterly chop the trip back in was exhilarating with all feeling refreshed. Then it was back to visit the Gold award winning National Maritime Museum Cornwall. Happy Days

This afternoon's trip went off fully kitted up despite the warm sunshine there was quite a strong Easterly wind so the bay was quite choppy, great to see the Bottlenose dolphins in so close again! A note to any boat users please have a look at how to operate safely around these fabulous creatures as once again today a few spoilt it for everyone

    50°W 8' 35" 50°E 8' 35"

It's been a bit of a mixed bag this last week, the weather does seem to have settled down a little now, during the last week we have had Harbour Porpoises, several Sunfish, the fabulous Peregrine Falcon soaring above the cliffs. This morning a pod of about 12 Bottlenose Dolphins were sighted between St Mawes and Falmouth. Such a shame this was spoilt by a boat who decided to charge through them.
