Christmas Auction to be held in Falmouth

Falmouth art auction to be held at the Fish Factory this weekend with more than 140 lots on offer.

Cornwall Contemporary Art Auctions will be holding their first Exhibition and Auction at the Fish Factory in Falmouth on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th of December.

Organisers Jenna Dunstan and Matthew Kemp have chosen the Christmas period for their first auction as it's a great chance for individuals looking for those one-off unique Christmas gifts and also a great chance for art buyers and gallery owners to have a look at some of the new and existing talent on show.

They have selected the Fish Factory contemporary art space at Falmouth Wharves on North Parade as the auction location because they feel it is helping to build a new artist community in Falmouth and gives great exposure to new and existing artists.

Matthew Kemp said: 'An idea came to mind of how to make the local contemporary art of today more accessible by creating an outlet in Falmouth for artists to sell their artwork directly in a modern day auction.

'Our main aim is to give the local public a chance to view or buy a wide variety of artwork from established and emerging artists at auction something Falmouth has not had to my knowledge in a good few years.'

Lots on offer

There will be an open view exhibition on Friday evening at 7pm where all the works will be set out in the old converted scallop processing building which gives the Fish Factory its name.

140 lots will be going under the hammer and Matthew’s father local auctioneer Peter Kemp who has twenty-five years experience as an auctioneer will be conducting the sale.

The unique backdrop, along with the quirky history and layout of the building, will help to draw in a large crowd and create a friendly atmosphere.

The auction starts at 1pm on Saturday with another viewing opportunity on the morning of the sale from 10am onwards.
