One of the things I really enjoy...

One of the things I really enjoy about living in Cornwall is the number of bands, particularly folk based, that I've been able to watch, listen to and yes... even dance to - if you can call the way I shuffle my feet dancing that is. Last night was brilliant, opening up with local... well Cornish anyway... band Gallowglass. We were told to expect 'loud, stompy folk rock with too much guitar, though on last night's performance, Art on drums wasn't going to be overlooked either. They certainly got feet stomping with their takes on traditional and self penned folky numbers and warmed the audience up nicely for '3 Daft Monkeys'.

Let's be honest here, I've seen some good bands in my time, but I've never seen one that put quite so much energy into their performance as this experienced trio gave us last night. Tim Ashton on 12 string guitar, whistle and foot drum, Athene Roberts on supercharged fiddle and Jamie Roberts driving things along with his bass line gave us a supercharged set that had the audience literally jumping in front of the stage. It's nights like this that makes Falmouth such a special place to be during the Fal River Festival.
