Marine Education Packages announced for Festival

11 February — 27 May 2009

Orca Sea Safaris and SciArt solutions have teamed up to offer fun and educational children's marine packages on two dates during the Fal River Festival.

Finding new and exciting things for children to do during school holidays that are educational as well as active can be problematic. A new partnership of two Falmouth-based marine companies think they have the ideal solution and are offering packages on two dates over the Fal River Festival.

Orca Sea Safaris and marine educators Sciart Solutions have teamed up to offer the perfect compliment of activities in their new kids educational experiences. The partnership are offering educational experiences for children, 7 to 15 years, combining a 2 hour rock pool safari with a 2 hour wildlife watching voyage. Parents are also welcome to participate with their children.

Dr Joanna Henley, managing director of Sciart Solutions is a marine scientist who first takes the participants on a tour around the rock pools, explaining all about life between the tides. This shore based experience also involved marine art making to consolidate the children's learning. The custom built rib ‘Seaquest of Falmouth' then arrives to whisk the children away, to explore the wider marine environment around Falmouth.

Dr Henley commented, ‘these workshops offer the complete experience for children. Not only do they get to spend two hours with a marine scientist learning all about marine life, they get an exciting adventure on board Seaquest, to put what they have learnt in context". She added "Sometimes we go out to Gull Rock to observe the seabird colonies but we're always on the look out for marine mammals such as dolphins and basking sharks."

Louise from Orca Sea Safaris is also really pleased with the popularity of the workshops. She added "This was a new venture for us last summer and we're really pleased with the popularity of the educational experiences. Parents get their children taken care of and amused for 4 hours, which for the price, is also really good value."
