New Autumn Exhibition on the River

26 October 2017

The King Harry Ferry has unveiled a new exhibition featuring a series of prints by local artist and printmaker Lou Tonkin.

Beautifully apt for the autumn, Lou Tonkin’s intricately detailed lino cuts depict a distinctive vision of the natural world and the region’s rich wildlife. The artwork captures the tranquil natural beauty of the the coastal and woodland environments that can be enjoyed around the area - especially during the changing of the seasons.

Lou was greatly influenced by the three years she spent as artist in residence at The Lost Gardens of Heligan before recently moving to Penryn.

‘My inspiration is taken almost exclusively from my local environment, I am fascinated with nature and hedgerows in particular.’ commented Lou.

The ferry connects St Mawes and the Roseland with Feock, Truro and Falmouth creating a key transport link for visitors and locals alike. The revealing of this new exhibition coincides with the Fal River Autumn Festival (19-29 October) and is just one of the many ways intrepid explorers are  encouraged to get out and embrace the area in all it’s autumn glory.

Garrick Royle, Managing Director of the King Harry Ferry said,

“With the leaves turning, the beaches and walking routes a little quieter and the days crisp and bright, autumn really is one of the best times to explore The Roseland Peninsula.

Lou’s beautifully crafted linocuts really encapsulate the extraordinary natural beauty that surrounds us right now, and we are delighted to have them on display.”

The pop up exhibition will be on display throughout the Autumn months. The full collection of Lou Tonkin’s work can be viewed online at www.loutonkin.com or by visiting Lou’s shop Seven Broad Street in Penryn.
