Festival Latest...

From 29 October 2013

We’re well into the Autumn Walking Festival now and sadly the weather hasn’t always been our friend!

If we thought it was a bit damp and blustery last week, that turned out to be nothing compared to what hit over the weekend, when we found ourselves in the position of recommending people to stay indoors!

But St Jude has passed us by now and as I write, the sun is shining and it feels like the perfect autumn day.

The trees that line the river bank here at King Harry Reach are turning into beautiful colours and blackberries, sloes and haws can still be found. Autumn really is a special time of year here in Cornwall.

Walking really does offer the best way to enjoy the scenery that’s around us; and the walks available to download from the site are so varied that there’s something for everyone. Short town strolls mean you can easily stop for lunch or even a spot of shopping; whereas the longer coast path hikes can keep you out in the fresh air for a whole day.

This year, the festival isn’t just about walking. Many of our partners around the river are putting on events for half term and Halloween, meaning we can celebrate everything autumnal! There are Halloween workshops, kids’ entertainments and garden tours; things for everyone aged 5 to 105!

There are a couple of highlights tomorrow (Wednesday 30th October) – a Spooky Night Garden Walk at Trebah Garden and a Wild Family Walk at Trelissick Gardens. Both celebrate the season perfectly and are suitable for all the family (although the Trebah walk is too scary for dogs).

Summer might be over, the weather might be getting wilder but there’s still lots to celebrate and look forward to this year. Download a walk, pull on your boots and come and join us!
