I Dare Exhibition

16 April - 8 July 2018

National Trust Trelissick, Feock, 11am - 5pm

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of women securing the vote, 'I Dare' tells the story of how, in 1931, the 'straightforward and modest' Ida Copeland defeated fascist Oswald Mosley to become MP for Stoke-on-Trent.

Born into privilege but beset by tragedy, Ida Copeland made it her business to do her bit and have her say. Ida, shrewd, smart and hardworking, knew exactly how to run a political campaign. The blustering Oswald Mosley certainly met his match in her. Trelissick has commissioned graphic artist, Keith Sparrow, to tell the dynamic story of Ida's political campaign and for the time, we reveal powerful and poignant archive photos and film from that time.
