Roseland Festival

15 — 29 October 2011

The Roseland Festival is back in 2011 for the sixth year running!

The Roseland Festival is back in 2011 for the sixth year running!

The programme is now just about complete -  with over 40 events scheduled for the 2 weeks from 15th October. The variety of events will be as diverse as ever so that everyone will find something of interest.

Headlining this year, with the unenviable task of following the 2010 Show of Hands’ performance, will be the Lark Rise Band led by Ashley Hutchings who has justly been known as “The Guv’nor” during a long career in folk music. The band will perform music, dance and readings based on the National Theatre production of “Lark Rise to Candleford”, in the atmospheric surroundings of Veryan Parish Church.

Classical music enthusiasts have 3 concerts this year:- Ben Salfield, world renowned lutenist at Philleigh Church, The Pizzetti Piano Trio at Portscatho and The Duo Armande (clarinet and violin/viola) at The Nare Hotel.

Jazz fans can see The Bobby Wellins Quartet as well as the local Jumpin' Out Jazz Band.  More music will be provided by “The Shirts” and British Blues legends, Dave Peabody and Bob Hall will trace the history of the blues in music and pictures

Bec Applebee of Kneehigh Theatre will perform her critically acclaimed one-woman show “Oh Mary”.  Three literary afternoons are planned with Philip Marsden, Stephen Tyrrell and cookery writer Lindsey Bareham,  in addition to the 2 appearances of “The Roseland Poets”

This year’s talks include one on the Cornish astronomer, John Couch Adams, plus a visit to the Roseland Observatory, and Catherine Ashton of Penlee House Gallery, Penzance, will present “The Newlyn School”of painters.

The St. Mawes Heritage Group will be staging an exhibition centred on Pilot Gigs and Gerrans Church will be hosting a celebration of the anniversary of the publication of the King James Bible

Add a selection of walks, pub singalongs and quizzes and it seems that the fortnight will be fairly full!!

We also have our free Members Night at Rosteague . If you'd like to join the Festival Association, please contact Steve Chapman on 01326 220 717 to enjoy the benefits such as Discount tickets and Early Booking.
