The Vikings are coming

14 — 15 November 2009

To the Maritime Museum

There's a Viking invasion happening at the Maritime Museum on 14-15 November. Throughout two days of family fun, visitors can travel back in time to meet some ‘real' Viking characters in the flesh.

All weekend re-enactment group Hildsvin will be giving demonstrations of life as a Viking, from the everyday domestic life of the Viking people to the weapons and fighting skills of these fearsome warriors.

Carl Maniglia, from the Hildsvin Viking Re-enactment group says: "The two days are all about having fun and discovering something new along the way. Most people think of the Vikings as bloodthirsty raiders or great warriors, but we aim to show over the weekend that they were also some of the greatest seafarers the world has known and traders with a rich and diverse culture."

There'll also be the chance to dress up like a Viking, listen to Norse sagas of heroic explorers and terrible monsters, make your own Viking helmet and shield, learn to write in runes and experience everything Viking with this free family activity weekend.

The Viking invasion at the Maritime Museum is from 12-4pm on 14-15 November. All of these amazing activities are free with your Museum ticket and don't forget when you pay once to visit the South West Visitor Attraction of the Year you can return as many times as you like for the next 12 months.
