19 January 2018

Ever dreamt of a Winter Wedding? Here at Knot we think saying ‘I do’ at this time of the year can be utterly magical. We asked experienced Wedding Planner Jenny Wren to tells us what to keep in mind when planning a winter wedding. Prepare to be inspired...

Dramatic Photographs

Moody winter skies and even raindrops coupled with striking Cornish coastlines can make for some stunning couple portrait wedding photographs. So wrap up, grab a brolly and go for it! Ensure you factor in the early loss of light into your timeline as your window of time for photos is shortened for winter weddings.

No Wedding Forecast Worries

Booking your wedding in the winter means there are no expectations of sunshine or warmth, the whole occasion is often a lot more relaxed as a result. Concentrate on making your venue all snug, cosy and romantic inside.

Rain Prep

If you know it’s likely to rain on your wedding day, stock up on some stylish wet weather gear, such as wellington boots and brollies. These days they come in just about any colour an array of designs. You can even have your bridesmaids join you with matching boots or various colours or brollies! This would make for some cute photos too!

Winter Glow

Adorn your venue with fairy lights, candles and lanterns to create that cosy intimate glow.

Get the party started

With the nights drawing in that much earlier in the day, you can begin your evening reception sooner, meaning you avoid the gap between ending dinner and starting the evening party. This also means more time for dancing!

Shoe Prep

If you're wearing heels have a second pair of flats ready to take with you outside. Walking from location to location in the soft, wet ground will be much easier!

Hot Hands

Hot packs for hand and foot warmers are handy to have stashed in your pocket. Hands are the first to go red in the cold and it is noticeable in photos.

Eyes & Nose

Carry a pocket size pack of tissues and wear waterproof mascara. The cold or wind can make eyes and noses water. If you have a wedding planner they will have these things with them in their kit.

Pretty Pinecones

Pinecones can look really effective when it comes to winter wedding styling, use them as name place card holders or in clusters around your venue. You could even incorporate small ones in your bouquet.

Winter Wedding Attire

When it comes to wedding attire, how about a fur-trim on the brides wedding dress or shawl to cover her shoulders? The flower girl could have one to match and fur muffs for the bridesmaids will keep them warm and look great!  The groom could opt for a velour, tweed or wool/cashmere blend suit.

Hot Choc Station

A DIY hot chocolate station with a range of toppings and perhaps a choice of Baileys or Bourbon to add!  Mulled wine, winter cocktails or a rum punch are also great winter wedding drinks.

S’mores Station

A s'mores station for creates a cozy spot for guests to come together and enjoy these delicious treats.

Festive Favours

Is your wedding near to the festive period? How about a Christmas tree decorations as favours? They can double up as name place card holder too. Your guests can then take them home to add to their Christmas tree, this favour will be kept for years to come, unlike many that just get forgotten and left behind once the day is over.

Snuggle Up

Have a hamper of blankets out for your guests to help themselves to when they venture outside.

Well, we are feeling suitably inspired after that, thank you Jenny Wren, we knew you would be full of winter wedding wisdom.
