The perfect rainy day activity for creative kids!

Summer is in full swing, which means finding new ways to keep the kids busy for the next few weeks. Finding new ideas for things to do can be a challenge, especially finding fun events and activities that won't break the bank.

Star Glazers Pottery Painting Cafe in Falmouth has been on our family bucket list for a while (we'd heard so many good things), and so when the Cornish mizzle made a rare appearance last week, it gave us all the more reason to book in a session. Here's how we got on...

The pottery studio is light, airy and well equipped with lots of space to get creative! Our table was laid with paints, palettes, brushes, aprons and helpful drawing books filled with inspiration. There was even a handy colour chart - so you can see how the colours turn out once glazed!

First things first, the kids were invited to choose a piece of pottery from the range of ceramic objects. There was a fantastic selection - little character figures like dinosaurs, ladybugs, all the letters of the alphabet, plus mugs and bowls. - Evie went for a Unicorn, Rory the letter ‘R’.

Before we got started, Christine who owns and runs Star Glazers explained the process and gave us plenty of tips, tricks and inspirational ideas to get started. She was brilliant with the kids, they were totally fascinated by the 1,000 degree oven their work would be going into!

Brimming with inspiration and enthusiasm the kids got cracking, getting totally stuck in, they had fun
trying out each and every stencil and stamp and created all sorts of groovy effects.

The kids were offered drinks and snacks
to keep the creative juices flowing, and I got to enjoy a coffee in peace whilst they were busy creating masterpieces.

Once they had made the finishing touches to their creations the kids proudly handed them over to Christine ready for
 firing and collection next week.

We can't wait to see how they turn out, as well as being fun to make, the Star Glazers creations will make such lovely momentos,
something we can keep and treasure forever.

Before we left, Christine told us about the Star Glazers Treasure Hunt..  There are hidden bits of pottery all over Falmouth for people to find. Parks, beaches etc, if you find a piece bring it back in to Star Glazers for a free drink or muffin! This gave us the perfect idea for what to finish our day doing - so we went off treasure hunting!
