European Union Chamber Orchestra

28 February 2015

European Union Chamber Orchestra at Hall For Cornwall, Truro. Time 7.30pm.

Hans-Peter Hofmann conductor
Guy Johnston cello

Holst St Paul's Suite Op. 29, No. 2
Haydn Cello Concerto No. 1 in C
Grieg Two Melodies, Op. 34 No. 4 & No. 5
Mozart Symphony No. 33 in B flat, K. 319

Opening with Holst's lively 'St Paul's Suite' – the first piece he wrote for his pupils at St Paul's Girls School - the centrepiece of this concert is Haydn's virtuosic Cello Concerto which displays
the full range of the instrument from growling low chords to lyrical melodies with Haydn's characteristic lightness of touch. The charm of Grieg's 'Two Melodies' is matched by the rhythmic vivacity of Mozart's Symphony No. 33.
