Fal River Autumn Festival goes down a storm!

26 October 2017

The Fal River Autumn Festival began on Thursday 19 October kicking off 11 days of events and walks celebrating autumn in, on and around the river.

The weekend following saw some dramatic autumnal Cornish weather, with Storm Bryan dampening everything but the spirits of those involved.

Crisp, clear autumn skies thankfully returned in the subsequent days making way for some fantastic events including Cornish Wild Food's Autumn Foraging on the Fal, A guided coastal walk walk from Portscatho to Pendowr raising funds for the South West Coastal Path, and Roseland Seaweeds Seaweed Harvesting Walk and Body Scrub Workshop.

Festival go-ers also explored the area's rich bio-diversity, with a rock pooling ramble from Flushing to Mylor led by the experts from Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Falmouth Marine Conservation.

Despite the weather the festival has proven to be more popular than ever, with both locals and visitors coming out in force to celebrate the area in all it's autumn glory.

Festival sponsors, walk guides and event organisers were treated to afternoon tea at The Nare Hotel who have have taken the lead role in sponsoring this years festival. Speaking at the launch event held at the luxury hotel, on the Roseland, Festival Co-ordinator Amy Brocklehurst said:
'It's wonderful to see so many people here from such a range of organisations.'

'Events like these would not be possible without the support, enthusiasm and passion put into it by everyone who is involved in it, from the sponsors to the walk guides and event hosts.'

'It's because of the strength of these partnerships that during the festival we'll see more and more people getting out and enjoying the, majestic and unspoilt beauty of this amazing part of Cornwall in all manner of fun and interesting ways.'

The Festival runs until Sunday 29 October and there are plenty of great autumnal events to enjoy including a Beach Clean led by Falmouth Conservation Group at Swanpool Beach, a chance to Journey around the area's most breathtaking scenery by boat onboard the Autumn River Cruise, a Heritage Walk with the RNLI crew from Falmouth Lifeboat Station and of course plenty of spooky goings-on all over the river in the lead up to Halloween!
