Review: Picnic Cornwall

8 June 2016

This month we're reviewing Picnic in Falmouth, trying out their coffee and cake on a sunny afternoon in Falmouth. Here's what we tried and what we thought...

First Impressions...

Everything about Picnic looks cool and reflects their independent, artisan vibe. Wooden tables, benches, cakes presented on slate boards, the place is a hybrid of a really quirky coffee shop hangout and a delicatessen.

Blackboards display the food and drink on offer, staff are upbeat and genuinely happy to help. We overheard someone on the next table say "I would like to come here and work for the day. This is the sort of place to spend hours in a café like this, it's got such a cool vibe" – we couldn't have said it better ourselves!

What we ordered...

We ordered a latte and their brand new Salted Caramel Flapjack, recommended by one of the Picnic team. A great recommendation! This deep, delicious flapjack had the perfect amount of sticky caramel peppered with flakes of Cornish sea salt. It was very more-ish yet not too sickly!

What we were drinking...

Picnic have a reputation for being THE place to get great coffee in Falmouth and they didn't disappoint! Serving Cornish coffee brand, Origin (the Resolute blend), the coffee was simply superb. Often we find that some lattes can be too milky but this was perfectly crafted – you could taste the roast of the coffee beans with a light foam on top and it's always nice to receive a coffee with pretty presentation too!

Best bits...

  • The location in the centre of Falmouth, it's the perfect mid-shop pit stop and at the heart of the hustle and bustle of Falmouth town
  • A major contender for best coffee in Falmouth
  • Delicious locally made cake (couldn't choose between this one and the indulgent looking gooey chocolate brownie – will be back to try that one!)
  • Service was really upbeat and friendly
  • Great variety of food on offer including Ann's Pasties, local cheeses, charcuterie, wines and gins

Need to know tip...

Picnic provide really delicious picnic hampers or you can build your own.

Best of all, they actually create picnics! Perfect for a day out to one of the beaches or gardens in Falmouth, or even to enjoy on your own private charter trip.

Our favourite picnics are their Breakfast for Two or their Cream Tea with Cornish Fizz picnic hamper, perfect for a romantic occasion! The Picnic motto "Eat. Drink. Explore" couldn't be more perfect to sum up the Picnic experience!
