Our Favourite Festive Treats

2 December 2016

We're ready for Christmas, the decorations are going up and we've got the Michael Buble Christmas album playing on repeat. We're lining up our December diary with fun festive treats of things to do to officially start the Christmas countdown. Here's some of our favourites:

Festive Afternoon Tea

Christmas is the time for indulging and what better way to indulge than a Festive Afternoon Tea at the Greenbank Hotel. Arriving on a tiered stand, you'll find miniature mince pies, pieces of Yule log and slices of rich Greenbank Christmas cake. Complete with festive finger sandwiches and warm scones served with strawberry jam and Rodda's Cornish clotted cream, it's the perfect pre-Christmas treat! Why not add a glass of mulled wine? Well, it IS Christmas after all! £15pp, £26 to share.

Christmas Cake Decorating

Our favourite cookery school, Philleigh Way, has announced a series of Christmas courses including Christmas Cookery, Christmas Baking, Christmas Cake Decorating and Wreath Making. The Christmas Cookery course on 3rd and 10th December will teach students how to bake German Stollen and Italian Panettone alongside demonstrating simple party canapés to impress your guests and ways to make a traditional roast turkey or goose even more delectable. There will even be a mixologist from Tarquin's Gin on hand to teach a couple of festive-themed cocktails. Cost: £150 per person including a delicious Christmas lunch and drinks.

But our favourite is the Christmas Cake Decorating course on 4th December where students will learn how to master a batch of different decorating skills and techniques to produce their own beautifully decorated Christmas cake. Just £50.00.

Wreath Making

Also with our friends at Philleigh Way, keep an eye out for their Wreath Making course. Tutor Helen Johns of Trebilcocks Flowers will be teaching students how to prepare their wreath base before decorating with seasonal greenery, ribbon and a range of decorations. Students get to keep their seasonal wreath at the end of the course so you'll have something beautiful to hang on your front door. Taking place on the afternoon of 16th December, mulled wine and mince pies will be provided to get you in the festive spirit and it's only a cost of £30.00!

Late Night Shopping

We love to go Late Night Shopping, to see the lights and enjoy the Christmassy feeling of both Falmouth and Truro at night. The streets fill with entertainment, street markets and stalls and the atmosphere is merry and uplifting. Wrap up warm and listen to the carol singers: it's our favourite time to walk the cobbled streets and soak up the atmosphere. If in Falmouth, make sure you pop into Picnic for a hot drink and a pick-me-up to escape the cold for an hour before enjoying the rest of the boutiques and art galleries.

Pantomime Fun

Finally, it's not Christmas without a visit to the Panto! This year's Panto at the Hall for Cornwall is Jack and the Beanstalk. Starting from 6th December, this promises to be a laugh-out-loud panto starring our very own Kernow King! The question is, have you booked your tickets yet? Oh no you haven't! Oh yes you must! Tickets from just £15.
