Schools out for summer! Keep the kids entertained with these fail-safe ideas for things to do over the school holidays in and around the Fal River. Take your pick of our favourite family-friendly events and special summer offers.

1. Family Friendly Adventure

Looking for a family-sized adventure playground? Why not leave the car behind for the day, and take a trip over to the Roseland on the Place Ferry; linking the South West Coast Path. This is the perfect choice for a day of exploring the Roseland Peninsula on foot, and a great opportunity to grab a Cornish pasty and a cup of tea from Thirstea Co. at lunchtime.

2. Secret Movie!

Why not surprise the kids during the school holidays with a family movie at the (top secret) Hidden Cinema at The St Mawes Hotel. With all the latest Disney, Pixar and family movie releases including Trolls, Frozen and Minions you’ll be spoilt for choice. 3. Outdoor Theatre Experience

Treat the family to a spot of culture with a special night of theatre performed under the stars!
Miracle Theatre will be popping up with their new show The Third Policeman, in unexpected outdoor venues throughout the summer. Beaches, cliff tops, amphitheatres, gardens, and even castles will become exciting backdrops to their hilarious and eccentric new production.
What's more, if you want to arrive in style take the special Showboat from Falmouth to see the show at St Mawes Castle on Tuesday 8th August.

4. Try a new Watersport

If you're a thrill seeking family looking for some blood-pumping activities to fill the holidays why not get on the water and try a new watersport. One of our favourite adventure spots is Loe Beach. Aswell as kids clubs and accredited courses Loe Beach Watersports Centre offer a range of options to hire, including kayaks, paddleboards, motor boatsrow boats, and sailing dinghies.

5. Unleash Your Creativity

Keep your child inspired over the holidays by getting creative and joining an Arts and Craft Workshop.

6. On Your Bike

A largely traffic free, level cycle route the Bissoe Trail provides access to the beautiful countryside along a mineral tramway between Devoran and Portreath on the North Coast. The flat graded trail between the two coasts makes this a perfectly doable and fun day out for the whole family. 8. Festivals

The Fal River has its fair share of festivals, and there's plenty on offer for families...

During Zestifal (Thu 27 - Mon 30 Jul) Falmouth's open spaces are transformed into sporting venues for people of all ages and abilities to take part in. There's plenty of opportunity to try something new from pilates, zumba, archery, paddle boarding, climbing and more!

PlayFest (Thu 3 - Fri 4 Aug) will be returning to Boscawen Park this summer. The FREE festival celebrates the importance of play in children's lives with circus workshops, have-a-go sessions, entertainers, stalls, face painting, music, dance, yoga, and fairground rides... All based around the Swamp Circus Big Top.

Falmouth Week (Fri 4 - Sun 13 Aug) has grown into the largest sailing regatta in the south west, not to mention a lively programme of shore side events. The Red Arrows will be joining the celebrations again this year, performing their spectacular aerial maneuvers in Falmouth Bay on Wed 9.

9. Gardens

The Fal River and surrounding area is home to some of the finest and most magical gardens in the Cornwall - perfect for wild family days out. Let your childrens imaginations run wild in one of these sub-tropical slices of gardening paradise. Get lost in the maze at Glendurgan, play in treehouses at Trebah, build dens in Trelissick's natural play areas.

10. Knight Fever

Experience the spectacle of a grand medieval joust at Pendennis Castle this summer. Get ready to cheer on your hero and witness some of the toughest knights in England as they battle it out in real tournaments. The living history encampments will take you back in time, where you'll be kept entertained by the court jester and merry musicians.
