Top 10 Tips for The City of Lights Parade

8 November 2017

The City of Lights Parade is back on Wednesday 22 November, here's all of the important information on how to best enjoy Truro's famous midwinter lantern festival.

1. Pick a good spot

The procession starts at 7pm and follows the route shown at the bottom of this page. Some popular spots to watch the parade are Boscawen Street, Lower Lemon Street and St Nicholas Street. Towards the top of Lemon Street and parts of River Street can be a little less crowded and make good spots for children and families.

The City of Lights is a fantastic community event that attracts a lot of people into the city centre so please travel light and avoid bringing pushchairs or prams into the highly crowded areas

2. Road Closures

There will be road closures in place in the centre of the city on a phased basis from 3pm onwards. Make sure you plan your journey into Truro, and give yourself plenty of time. All of the main roads surrounding the city will remain open throughout but prepare for a lot of traffic.

3. Car Parking

All the car parks are open and the Park & Ride will be in full operation.

4. Trains & Buses

Trains and buses will be operating to their usual schedule with the exception of services between 7.30pm and 8pm which will operate via Fairmantle Street. After 8pm, all bus services including Park & Ride will operate via the Bus Station on Green Street.

5. Food & Drink

All the usual eateries in Truro will be open throughout the event - if you have somewhere in mind, remember to book your table in advance. There will be a variety of food traders operating from 3pm on Lemon Quay, Boscawen Street and King Street.

6. Viewing area for wheelchair users

This year City of Lights have created a space specifically for wheelchair users on Princes Street.

Book disabled viewing area tickets here.

7. VIP Area

For just £25 you can avoid the crowds and watch the parade in style accompanied by a glass of Prosecco. New for 2017, City of Lights have an exclusive location for VIP guests to view the parade on the night. This is a great opportunity to offer an early Christmas treat to your colleagues, friends or family. Location: Secret -to be announced 1 week before (central Truro)
