National Maritime Museum Cornwall Nominated for British Travel Awards
8 July 2014
National Maritime Museum Cornwall has been named by the British Travel Awards (BTAs) as one of the contenders for the UK Heritage Attraction of the Year.
With its breathtaking waterside location in Falmouth, dedicated vision to celebrate the sea, boats and Cornwall and ever changing exhibitions focused on maritime heritage in its stunning 15 galleries, this ‘baby’ of a heritage attraction, having celebrated its 10thbirthday last year, was runner-up in 2013 achieving silver, with gold going to Edinburgh Castle.
Cath Horton, Visitor Services Manager, says: “We naturally love our Museum, and we know many others love it too – we just never knew quite how many.
To have won silver last year was overwhelming, to know we had that level of appreciation from thousands of supporters who took the time to vote for us meant the world. We are again flattered to be amongst giants (literally) in the UK’s heritage attraction world, with this year fierce competition from Arundel Castle, Giant’s Causeway, Stirling Castle and Edinburgh Castle.
“A vote for us, is a vote for Cornwall and with the Eden Project in the UK’s Leisure Attraction of the Year category, could this be the year we both bring gold home to the county? Please vote for us both at www.britishtravelawards.com”
BTA’s chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “National Maritime Museum Cornwall is to be congratulated on reaching the voting stage of the prestigious British Travel Awards, the largest consumer voted awards programme in the UK. The BTAs winning accolade is the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business of travel for the UK consumer. There are more companies in the competition than ever before, and some great vote-incentive prizes for consumers. We will be promoting the voting period to over seven million potential voters via our media partnerships and direct email campaigns to previous voters and this year we are expecting a record number of votes, so good luck to National Maritime Museum Cornwall”
The winners will be the companies with the most votes - in 2013 over one million votes were cast with the voting process and results scrutinized and audited by independent auditors Deloitte LLP.
The winners of the 2014 British Travel Awards will be announced at a glittering ceremony on 26 November at the Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London.
