Enjoy Stories and Songs of Cornwall at The Maritime Museum

22 September 2014

During 2012 Hilary Coleman and Sally Burley undertook a journey across the length and breadth of Cornwall, visiting pubs where they knew the tradition of Cornish harmony singing was taking place.

Their goal was to create a snapshot of what was being sung and where.

The result was a collection of songs and stories that will be recounted at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth on October 6.

Come along to hear tales of Hilary and Sally's adventures, wonderfully illustrated with some of the songs performed live by of the Red River Singers.

Hilary says: "These will include sea shanties and stories of Cornish emigration which brought so many of the songs to Cornwall. They will be sung 'how they belong to be' by the Red River Singers. Song words will also be available if you would like to join in!"

The talk, entitled Shout Kernow! is part of a programme combining a lecture and lunch, which explores different historical and nautical themes.  The lecture and set lunch is from 12.30pm at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, on Monday October 6 and costs £16.  To book your place please call 01326 214546.

Copies of the book and CD Shout Kernow will also be available to buy at the talk.
