First to enhance its Newquay bus services from 2 November
21 October 2014
First Kernow has announced enhancements to its network of local bus services in Cornwall from Sunday 2 November.
These will be in the Newquay area where in recent times, it has provided just one route connecting the town with Truro and the wider First Kernow network.
Following an increase in the frequency of the Newquay to Truro service, introduced at the beginning of September, First is consolidating this further from November by extending one bus per hour to additionally serve the villages of Fraddon, Indian Queens, St Columb Road and White Cross.
These villages will also feature on a new route being introduced from Newquay to St Austell. The 21 will provide an hourly service between the two towns, Monday to Saturday, and together with the revised Newquay to Truro service, will offer a First bus every 20 minutes between St Columb Minor, Porth and Newquay.
First is also introducing an hourly second route between Newquay and Truro via Perranporth combining with its current routes to give a First Kernow bus every 20 minutes between the two major centres.
Commenting on the changes, Alex Carter, Managing Director of First South West said: "This has been an exciting several months for First Kernow. During this period, we have secured our local bus contracts with Cornwall Council, our direct contract for dedicated bus routes serving Truro and Penwith College, and have started our new arrangement for students and staff attending the university sites in the Falmouth and Penryn area which has been made possible through a unique partnership with Fal River Ferries. As a result of these new developments, we have stabilised the Kernow business after many years of financial losses.
"We are now looking to develop our commercial service offering in Cornwall, and these exciting route enhancements for Newquay and St Austell are the first stage of that, with more plans in the pipeline.'
