There be Dragons at The Maritime Museum
20 July 2015
Enter the Dragon’s Den, the Maritime Museum’s new interactive Vikings and dragons play zone.
Explore the world of Viking myths, monsters and legends with games galore and fun for all ages.
Face your fear under Fafnir, the fearsome dragon's stomach in the sensory cave, shoot through its mouth on the speedy slide and flap your dragon wings with stunning dress up outfits.
Take on the giant magnetic Viking longship, dress as a Viking and become a raider or trader and unravel the runes of the Viking language.
Derryth Ridge, Family Learning Officer at National Maritime Museum Cornwall says: "First we brought you Vikings and now we bring you Dragons. Not only that but a dragon that you can climb up, slide down and in! We knew we wanted to take the core elements of the Viking Voyagers exhibition and extend the engagement in our annual summer game area for the school holiday season. What we didn't know was that every one of every age and interest has 'lost' themselves in this magical new world."
As well as this stunning new play zone, firm favourites such as the Museum's magnificent make and take activities are back. From monster masks to pirate hats there are free creative craft activities every day and different themes every week, including Mythical Monsters, Pesky Pirates and not forgetting those Vulgar Vikings! And every Thursday of every school holiday is 'Thorsday'. Meet the Norse men and women from the epic new Viking Voyagers exhibition, experience living history with Morvleydh, the Sea Wolves and make your own authentic 'Eric Bloodaxe' Viking age coin to take home.
These amazing activities and many more are free with your Museum ticket and best of all when you pay once to visit Cornwall's multi-award winning all-weather attraction you can return as many times as you like for a whole year.
