JMW Turner – Inspiring Change
27 April 2017
Roseland Festival 2017, St Just Institute, 3pm
Victoria Pomery, OBE, Director of Turner Contemporary in Margate.
Victoria will consider JMW Turner’s legacy and the development of the new gallery, Turner Contemporary in Margate, which is regarded as one of the most successful examples of culture-led regeneration in the UK.
JMW Turner (1775-1851) is one of the best-loved and most influential artists. He travelled extensively in the UK and Europe, at a time when travel wasn’t easy, and made oil and watercolour paintings in locations from Falmouth to Folkestone.
Turner’s influence and legacy has been extensive. Turner Contemporary opened in 2011. The gallery has been a driver for the regeneration of that area.
