Robin Knox-Johnston – A World of My Own

9 April - 1 September 2019

The National Maritime Museum Cornwall's exhibition of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and one of the Greatest sea adventures of all time.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston was considered the underdog by many in the 1968-69 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race. So it was with surprise he became the first person to sail single handed and non-stop around the world. There were times it may have even surprised him as he struggled to raise the funds needed to take part, faced 80-foot waves, battled appendicitis, made repairs in shark infested waters and losing radio contact for four months – a journey for the brave. Setting off from Falmouth in Suhaili the exhibition documents his exhilarating voyage and the emotional return to this town.

A World of My Own features photographs and objects from Sir Robin Knox-Johnston’s personal collection and celebrates fifty years since his remarkable journey. Running until 8 September.

This exhibition is free to attend as part of the entrance fee to National Maritime Museum Cornwall.
