All Aboard: Fal River's Floating Stage Sets Sail Again at Falmouth's Sea Shanty Festival 2026

19 June

The sun shone, the crowds sang, and the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival returned in 2026 to once again prove why it holds the title of Europe's largest free nautical music celebration, drawing thousands of visitors to Cornwall's picturesque waterfront for another unforgettable weekend of maritime song.

Fal River took to the water in style once more, with the beloved St Mawes Ferry, The Duchess of Cornwall, transformed into a magnificent floating stage. Building on the success of last year's festival first, three outstanding shanty groups - the Severn Whalers from Bristol, local group Stuns’ls, and the Solent Shanty Buoys from Hampshire - delivered rousing performances that had audiences singing along from the quayside.

The Severn Whalers

The floating stage moved between the festival's main venues,  from the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club and The Greenbank Hotel to Custom House Quay, Events Square, and the Church Street Stage, bringing the music directly to the water's edge. With the tide running high throughout the performances, the musicians were able to get remarkably close to shore-based crowds, creating an intimate atmosphere between performers and audience that is simply impossible to replicate on dry land.

Stuns'ls

Perfect weather added to the weekend's magic, with clear skies and calm waters providing ideal conditions for both the floating performances and the thousands of spectators lining the waterfront. And once again, over £30,000 was raised for the RNLI - a wonderful reminder that the spirit of this festival goes beyond the music.

Solent Shanty Buoys

A huge thank you to everyone who came down to the water's edge to sing, wave, and soak it all in. Here's to next year!
