Ground & Sky opens at Tregony Contemporary, St Mawes, on 1 August. The exhibition begins with the paintings of Richard Cook, whose work provided the starting point for a carefully curated exhibition bringing together painters and sculptors whose work shares a similar visual sensibility.

One of Britain's most respected contemporary painters, Richard Cook has developed a distinctive body of work over more than five decades. Rooted in direct observation yet transformed through memory, light and atmosphere, his paintings became the catalyst for an exhibition that has grown naturally around them.

Rather than a traditional mixed summer exhibition, Ground & Sky has been shaped around an artist. Gallery directors Judi and Brian Green have brought together gallery artists and invited artists whose work sits naturally alongside Richard's, creating an exhibition united by a shared sensitivity to landscape, light, atmosphere and material.

Alongside Richard Cook, the exhibition features work by Victoria Atkinson MRSS, James Bland NEAC, Virginia Bounds, Mark Dunford LG, Emily Faludy, Robert Fogell, Judi Green, Charlotte Houlihan, Claire Ireland, Matt Midwood, Ian Norris, Daniel Preece LG, Linda Schwab, Sarah Spackman ROI RBA, Mark Surridge, Kay Vinson, Grant Watson NEAC and Andrew Wykes.

Although each artist has a distinctive visual language, the exhibition reflects a shared commitment to observation and the enduring qualities of light, weather, atmosphere and place. Together, the works offer different responses to the landscape while remaining true to each artist's individual vision.
