Boatbuilding Workshop at the NMMC

12 November

The National Maritime Museum Cornwall opens the workshop

Our boatbuilding volunteers, led by our Boat Collection Manager and Lead Boatbuilder, have been building a replica of a WW2 S.N.2 Special Operations Executive (SOE) boat.

Museum visitors are welcome to step inside the workshop, take a closer look at the Surfboat and chat to some of the team who have been working on the project.

Thanks to the generous support of a ‘Victory 80’ award, our WW2 S.N.2 Special Operations Executive (SOE) replica boat build project can uncover more about the role these boats played during the war and we can host more open days.

So far this year we’ve opened up the workshop to visitors for special events such as the 80th anniversary of VE Day on 8 May, VJ Day on 15 August, and on 13 June as part of the Falmouth Classics and Falmouth International Sea Shanty Weekend.

The award was funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and awarded by Museum Development South West with thanks to support from Arts Council England. Read more about the Victory 80 award, and what it will help us do here.
