An Activity Lover's Guide to the Fal River

28 August

Tucked along its creeks, quays and quarries is one of Cornwall's best clusters of activity providers, covering everything from indoor climbing to open-top motoring, wakeboarding to sea kayaking. Whether you're chasing an adrenaline hit or a peaceful paddle, here's where to find it.

BoulderRyn, Penryn

Cornwall's newest bouldering wall is already a local favourite. BoulderRyn offers over 90 routes across 300 square metres of colour-coded holds, with no ropes or harnesses required,  just chalk, climbing shoes and a mat below. It's beginner-friendly with a full induction for first-timers, but graded routes keep things interesting for experienced climbers too. A great rainy-day option, or simply a fun way to build strength between outdoor adventures.

Koru Kayaking

For a guided kayak adventure with real storytelling behind it, Koru Kayaking runs trips led by Tom and Hetty Wildblood along the Helford River and Frenchman's Creek - the inspiration for Daphne du Maurier's novel of the same name. Paddling past ancient oak woodland and the Royal Duchy Oyster Farm, with a good chance of spotting herons, egrets and other wildlife, these two-hour tours (often with a swim stop on warm days) are as much about local history as they are exercise.
