Back to School

2 September 2022

‘Back to school’ doesn't have to be just for the kids! This September, why not learn something new, expand your skills, increase your general knowledge or have a go at something different just for fun? We take a look at some great experiences on offer in the Fal River area.

Rock Pool Safari

  Throughout September

Nature lovers of all ages can enjoy a fun, educational, active day out rock pooling with a Rock Pool Safari.  Take a glimpse into and learn about the mysterious world of marine creatures revealed by the receding tide.   Some species can be found high on the beach and are only covered at high tide, whereas many others you will only find near the water’s edge at low tide. When searching, check beneath rocks, under overhangs, in nooks and crannies. The closer you look, the more wildlife you’ll see!  Become a citizen scientist and contribute to real science by carrying out a survey on your expedition.  The Rock Pool Project has surveys suitable for all abilities, and your finds will be checked by their marine biologist experts. Don't forget to share your pictures with us on Instagram @falriver!

Inspire Makers

  Throughout September

Have you ever wanted to learn new skills or try different crafts? Are you curious about how artists and makers do what they do? Become a maker with a creative workshop from  Inspire Makers  Their workshop programme offers a wide range of “kitchen table” based classes to inspire you to find your creative path. The classes are designed to give you an introduction to various artforms, through half or full day sessions, and give you the confidence to carry on exploring at home without needing a large outlay on equipment or materials.  Inspire Makers believe everyone can be creative in some way and their programme assumes no prior knowledge or ability and encourages you to have a go with a small group of like-minded people.  Classes are held by makers showcased in the shop, offering you a chance to learn more about them, what inspires them and what they create.
