Days out in Falmouth are fun, varied and can be enjoyed by everyone. From a boat trip across the harbour, to a stroll down along the waterfront or a visit to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Falmouth is perfect for lazy days at the beach or action-packed adventure.
All services subject to tide, weather, traffic and circumstances.
The third largest deep water harbour in the world, Falmouth and its active port are bustling with activity all year round.
Falmouth plays host to a wide range of cafes, shops, galleries, restaurants and bars. Falmouth has very little (and expensive) long stay, town centre parking and for this reason the Park & Float / Ride was established. Visitors to the town can now help reduce congestion and pollution by using the 500 space car park on the outskirts of town at Ponsharden.
The service was started in 2003 to support the opening of the National Maritime Museum by Cornwall Ferries Ltd.
The ferries were purchased from the Isles of Scilly where they had served as off island boats.
The flagship Kingsley II was built by Percy Mitchell in Portmellon nr. Mevagissey in the 1940s and was the longest boat launched over the wall.
Throughout their lives the ferries have covered millions of miles and carries millions of passengers.
The ferries were refitted by Cockwells Classic and Modern Boat Builders situated just next to the car park.
In the winter months the car park becomes a boat park and this helps support the summer park and ride operation.
Since opening the service, it has prevented 110,000 cars contributing to Falmouth's congestion and poor air quality in the summer months.
It has also allowed 295,000 passengers the opportunity to see Falmouth from the river whilst enjoying a river trip on a classic ferry.
The service is supported by Cornwall Council and helps meet traffic reduction targets for the County and Country.
Each year the Park and Float/Ride scheme stops more than 20,000 cars from travelling into Falmouth town.
This saves a whopping 22 tonnes of carbon dioxide and 7 tonnes of carbon pollution.
Between them the Park & Float Ferries have covered more than 95,000 miles, the equivalent to travelling from Land's End to John O'Groats and back 25 times!
