Family Fun this February Half Term at National Maritime Museum Cornwall

12 February 2020

National Maritime Museum Cornwall is set to keep families entertained this February half term with a jam-packed schedule of events and activities.

Science of the Sea returns to the Museum this February half term with explosive demonstrations and intriguing experiments. Tackling the mysteries of the sea through a scientific lens, all sessions will be led by an expert scientist from Bristol’s Explorer Dome on Monday 17 – Friday 21 February.

Running alongside the Science of the Sea shows is the chance to get creative at the Museum’s Make and Take workshops. In these craft workshops families can create their own sea creature bubble machines.

Celebrating World Whale Day on Sunday 16 February, National Maritime Museum Cornwall is joined by Cornish illustrator Becky Thorns as she launches her new book The World of Whales. Visitors will be able to meet Becky and have their copy of her book signed as well as help create a group collage of one of Becky’s whale illustrations.

In partnership with Mayes Creative the Museum will be running special trails on Saturday 22 February. Called Transit of Venus, there will be the chance to explore the Museum on an hour long guided tour. During the tour visitors learn how Venus and the Sun helped scientists first discover the size of the universe over 250 years ago. A special Make and Take session to create a planisphere, rocket or telescope will run alongside the trail in honour of the discovery.
